Mostly random with a chance of what the what?

The Chainsaw got me some purty roses for Valentimes Day.

I tried to pawn them off on some neighbors when we left for our vacation a few days later, but no ladies were home.  So I left them on the counter.  When we got home, they still looked ok!  I mean, they were mostly dead, but...they looked ok, you know?

And by ok, I mean kind of sexy in a mostly dead flower kind of way.

So I enjoyed my dead flowers on the counter for almost another week before I sent them off to their flowery grave.

In other news, I went "thrifting" with Roxann the week before we left.  I put thrifting in quotes because neither of our hearts were in it and we didn't buy a thing.  Then we went to Sputnik and had some dranks and ate corn dogs with Becky.  Our table had this awesome artwork hanging over it.

The picture is not so good, but I don't give a shit because I'm an asshole.

Then we all paid with our Hot Butter wallets.  Ahhhhh!

Yesterday I made home made lasagna with home made sauce for the second time, and DANG.  It's so good.  You may or may not know that onions are my nemesis.  I enjoy their flavor if I don't have to bite into them, so I like to use the cheese grater to "chop" my onions.  No chunks here, senor!  This makes me cry 1000 tears.  Any tried and true no cry onion tips, my dear friends?  I cried off mascara I didn't even know I was wearing.

Thanks for noticing the shitty skin I brought home from Florida.

Starring Felix with special guest- the worst thing that has ever happened to me

SDC13692

Do you know what kids love? Giant whiteboards + markers!

SDC13693

This is obviously a Butter fambly portrait starring Felix on the left, Chainsaw on the right, and the lovely round character in the middle is most obviously me.

Later that night I was minding my own business when Felix walks up to the sushi bar to ask a glorious man questions regarding the samurai costume behind the bar. Next thing I know the man comes out with the helmet and my little handsome was transformed into my little samurai.

SDC13699

I think sudden samurai syndrome must run in the family?

SDC13701

Also, that Chainsaw has one fine mustache these days. After these pictures were taken I made the worst two mistakes of my life: 1. Trying sushi and 2. Trying saki.

Seriously about the sushi you guys, I kept hearing how good it was, and then my mouth was full of it and I thought I'd be chewing forever. I gagged every time I managed to force myself to swallow. I totally trucked through and choked it down without puking, but I probably would have looked much more ladylike if I had just spit it in my napkin. Oh well. I think I'll go back to not being a sushi eater starting immediately.

Felix and I quickly threw together some pouches for his teachers this morning. He drew a picture with fabric crayons, I made the pouches.

SDC13714

This one is a mouse because his teachers like animals. I had to talk him out of using the drawing with a "pillow with a star" and the "I love school trophy," both of which didn't so much look like their descriptions.

SDC13719

And this is a bear who has goggles on his back in case he needs them, ok? I started them a couple hours before school started and finished (wrapped with bow!) a few minutes before my man folk left for school. Then I took a hot bath and pretended I didn't have a zillion other things to do.

What I did on my summer blogging vacation

I doubt anyone is mad at me for not posting, but in case you are, here are some tame butterflies to ease any harsh feelings about my disappearance.

Friendly butterflies

OK, do we all feel better now?

Unfortunately those pesky lazies caught up with me again. My sewing machine was moved down to the basement a while ago when we had dinner company (dinner table = sewing table), and I never brought it back up. Tomorrow is the big day. I'm going to apologize for neglecting her and ask if she wants to go steady again.

I am painfully, horribly, embarrassingly behind on quilting bee blocks.

In addition to being lazy, Felix, Chainsaw and I took a trip to South Dakota for the Fourth of July. My mom was planning a visit to Colorado the next week, so Felix and I stayed and hitched a ride home with her.

Mount Rushmore

We visited the Shrine of Democracy. Felix has been dying to check out the "great faces" for some time now.

Cake time!

My little sister turned 21 on July 5th. I offered to be the DCASO/DD (designated car alarm setter offer/designated driver) for her power hour, which is what the crazy kids call going out at midnight the night before your birthday.

We took Felix to the carnival:

Carnival

Carnival

Carnival

I got a wicked bad sunburn that day. Ouch!

Hiking with Laura

I got to hang out with my breast friend Laura, who has been living in Oregon for the past year but is now residing in South Dakota again. We went on a hike, and there were these crazy swarms of butterflies everywhere. They decided they liked us.

Friendly butterflies

It was a little bit like a Disney movie, only no princes with bejeweled beer coozies found the glass flip flop (ok, it was plastic) that we stumbled up on in the creek. I feel bad for the poor girl who had to finish the hike with one shoe.

After we got back to Colorado, my baby sister decided we had to go out on a girl date. We had to dress up and everything.

Alyssa and Ashley

We went to the Boulder Outdoor Cinema, which I highly recommend to anyone close enough to check it out. $5 donation, bring your own chair (you can even bring your own couch if you want!), cheap snacks (or you can bring your own), and a fun night hanging out and watching a movie outside next to the creek. Sign yourself up.

Hm, well. I guess that's the end of my report. I'm setting myself some sewing goals for tomorrow, and hopefully I'll have something new and fabulous to show off soon!

I just got dressed before noon for no reason?

What? And I vacuumed the rug too?

I babysit a sweet little girl and her funny little brother twice a week, and on those days I get up, get dressed, brush my teeth, and clean up my house as much as possible before they come at 9. That is a LOT for me to do that early. I go back and forth between being a morning person and being a morning dreading person. I think it depends on how well I'm sleeping.

When my relationship with the Chainsaw was fresh and new, we had a huge time difference between us. He was seven hours ahead of me in The Netherlands. I would go to bed early, like 8 or 9 (do you see why I wasn't super cool in college?) so I could successfully get up at 5 or 6 am to talk to him online for a bit before I had to go to class. Believe it or not, I liked this schedule. Maybe it was the excitement of internet flirting with my one true love? Maybe it was watching the sunrise? See how cute we were?

FH000014

Anyway, that is no longer my schedule. Today I am all ready to babysit, but then I get the call that says the two year old is sick. again. That poor kid has been sick a lot lately, and his poor mama didn't want to inflict the germs on Felix.

So here I am, awake, dressed, and my house is cleaned up. I guess I better get to work! I have several new wristlets cut out and ready to be cute.
