Change of plans

Hi guys!

I was supposed to drive to South Dakota tomorrow, but there's supposed to be a big snow storm (of course!!) so I went today instead. I'll get the tutorial up as soon as I can tomorrow. Sorry about the delay. I wouldn't have promised if I had known.

And because posts without pictures are useless, here's a picture I took while taking inventory of my stock the other day.

Action Shots!

I took a few action shots of me sewing today. Just thought I'd share!

Isn't my new dress lovely? I got it at Forever 21 (or uh, XXI Forever, as it says at my mall) for like $7.99. I walked in there fully prepared to buy some summer dresses at full price, and instead I found a few good deals.

I've been doing some creating with feathers, and I'll be back tomorrow with a fun feather diy. :D I hope your week is lovely so far. We just enjoyed a 76 degree (it probably got higher than that) day, and it was glorious!

Birthday continued

SDC11186

Squirrel in the garbage can at my favorite ice cream place. I use my birthday as an excuse to pick up and eat an entire pint of birthday cake ice cream. :D

SDC11188

Check out the wrapping job on this present! My friends Brad, Melissa, and Lauren hooked me up with the Pioneer Woman cookbook, which was on my wish list. Then Melissa wrapped it in a set of choice sunset sheets and a tie from the thrift store! She also slipped in a pair of earring that she made and some fabric. Thanks guys! :D

SDC11193

This picture is of Jamie and Heather, protecting the feast!

Appetizer birthday party was a success, if I do say so myself. I measure it's success by how full I was by the end of the night! It was kind of a wussy party in that it was over at 10, but I think I didn't drink enough water that day and had a pretty bad headache. So it was actually kind of perfect!

I made potato skins and my favorite guilty pleasure- Original Lays and Hidden Valley ranch dip.
Heather brought pepperoni pizza dip, which was a huge hit, and her gluten free brownies that are so delicious that you don't even miss the gluten.
Ryan brought a crock of BBQ wieners!
Brooke brought some delicious rice noodles and vegetables. It was kind of nice having something healthy too!
Jamie and Tony brought Dirt and Worms and pickles wrapped with meat.
Brad and Melissa brought spicy spinach and artichoke dip, guacamole, and the gouda mac and cheese I've been after.

I saved the mac and cheese for dinner for last night, and it was AWESOME. :D

SDC11196

Then everyone played Beatles Rock Band for a bit and the crowd dispersed!

SDC11216

This is my 24 to do before I turn 25. I'm kind of excited about this year. :D

Feast your eyes upon my "last day of being 23" cookie. I've got jimmies, and I'm not afraid to use them!

Package from afar

What does it mean when you receive a package and the packing paper looks like this?

SDC11167

It means you got a package from your breast friend in Korea. And by you, I mean ME, of course!

SDC11155

Laura couldn't resist this mug, even though she knows I have way too many. We do have a good friend pig story. The bottom says something about "fine living," which is awesome because I think it's from the 1000 won store, which is "less than a dollar" store to us.

SDC11152

Laura knows I love cigarettes, babies, and tattoos. I gave up my great cigarette love almost four months ago, but I can enjoy them now on these socks featuring three of my favorite things. These socks are for men, but I apparently Korean men have dainty feet!

SDC11162

These are Laura's favorite Korean treats. Do you see Felix on the side? He loves them too and had to race to the kitchen when he saw me retrieving them.

SDC11165

Aren't they cute? They remind me of those asian koala treats, if you know what I mean?

SDC11159

She got me this wooden bracelet at the Dongwhasa temple. It has a tiger on it, which is our symbol. It's also our year. Just so you know.

There are a few other pictures of some hair majesties and other candies on my flickr if you want to check them out.

Edited to add- I can't believe I forgot to show you the fabric! I was rushing out, and just wrote about the first few pictures I came across on flickr. I'll show that soon. :D

Thank you so much Laura!!

Now I need to get to work on her birthday package.

Randoms

SDC11126

Tuesday started off as a nice enough day. By lunchtime it was dark. Then it was raining. Then I looked outside and this was going on.

SDC11131

This is our gate the next morning! Holy smokes! Of course, it's melting already. I was so surprised by this storm. If I had known I would have went to buy peppermint schnapps and hot chocolate. Maybe cookie fixins? I like to be prepared for a good storm!

SDC11136

I won this cross stitched Welcome art from a giveaway from Amanda (an indie business class mate!) at Pretty Simple Art. It looks great next to Tom, our thrifted owl.

SDC11135

It looks awesome on my collage wall, actually. :D I see that my bird hoop is hung up backwards. Thanks for that Felix! Thanks to Amanda for the great prize! Go check out her blog and her shop if you have a minute.

Go enter Becky's giveaway too! She has an awesome apron to share. Try not to win, would ya? It's my birthday weekend, so you should let me win, right?

The tiger, the witch, and the robot

Also known as The Wizard of Oz. Felix referred to it as the tiger, the witch, and the robot once, and I thought it was hilarious. Anyway, I picked up this adorable Wizard of Oz print by Kokka at Fancy Tiger last weeekend.

Didn't these wallets turn out cute? I have another long wallet in the works, but I accidentally cut the card part up while I was squaring up edges. I could kick my own butt for that! Oh well. I'll get it fixed up soon!

IMG_6589

I also got this cute fruity fabric, and some pretty green corduroy from the remnants.

IMG_6570

Just because they make me smile, here's Felix and Cody playing outside.

IMG_6486

IMG_6468

Do you like how Cody has his own balloon?

Did you know it's my birthday on Saturday? Because I love presents, I'd like to offer the gift of free shipping until Sunday night. Say happy birthday in the notes to seller and either wait for an invoice or pay right away and I'll refund the shipping. :D

Wristlets

I made a pile of gathered wristlets last Friday. I think they turned out beautifully.

IMG_6295

Sorry, I now see that the red background is a little jarring to the eyeball.

IMG_6309

I think this one is so cute. I love everything about it- deer button, colors, mushrooms, LOVE!

IMG_6356

IMG_6376

I have another wristlet that didn't photograph well today and this little pouch snuck into my head and had to be created.

IMG_6313

That's the last little cupcake scrap. Fancy Tiger is out, so I might turn to the internet for more. We'll see!

I'll list a couple of these tomorrow. I'll be working on a new batch of cute wallets. I'm trying to get as much done as I can before the craft fair. I only have two and a half weeks!

Photos by Felix and friends

Felix's pirate party was AWESOME. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that it was a rocking good time.

Chainsaw and I got Felix his very own digital camera for his birthday. It's a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse camera, which I didn't really care about so much, but Chainsaw did some research and this one appeared to be the best. The flash is SUPER bright, which I saw in the reviews. It is easily remedied by a piece of tape over part of the flash. Pardon any super bright pictures.

I love the self portraits.

PICT0142

These are from Fancy Tiger. Felix and I went to explore the city (which really meant go buy fabric at Fancy Tiger) yesterday, and he loved Branwyn, their shop dog and best friend to everyone. Felix could not get over how "beautiful" she (I'm assuming!) is.

PICT0167

I like how natural Pooh and Tigger on a scooter look on this corner. I'll be back later tonight to show off my new wristlets and maybe some wallet works in progress. Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Happy Birthday Felix!

Sorry I've slacked off a couple days this week. I've been so busy getting ready for today, Felix's fourth birthday!

IMG_4806

So happy birthday to my favorite kid ever. I'll be back soon with pictures of the pirate party and a few creations.

A lesson in humility

This post was going to be called "How I laugh in the face of danger!" In fact, I was mentally composing this post about how I do just that. I think you're supposed to take pins out before you sew over them. My grandma taught me how to use a sewing machine, and she said it was cool to just leave them in. So I always have.

I am aware of the danger to my eyes and face, but hey, I laugh in the face of danger. Also, I don't think I've ever hurt myself from this dangerous habit.

I am Ashley, destroyer of pins!

The pin with the sharp curve is a casualty of the danger. I have also hit a metal zipper stop and had my needle break into three pieces, one of which cut my face really close to my eye. I have been more careful with zippers ever since then.

So there I was, laughing in the face of danger when it happened. I hit a pin, bending it down into my machine. I should probably be more worried about hurting my sewing machine! Anyway, I am able to extract the fallen solder. A few seconds later my needle JUST BREAKS. That's it. Oh hi, I'm gonna break now. Love, your Needle.

So, I changed my needle and quit laughing. The end.

Cupcakes and Candy

I had to take Jeffrey back to the city to catch his bus on Sunday, and accidentally on purpose found myself at Fancy Tiger Crafts. Oops! While the majority of my fabric buying these days is from the thrift store, I thought I'd put some positive vibes out into the universe that I'd be getting into the craft fair I applied for and buy some fancy fabrics.

I found this super dooper cute fabric from Kokka with cupcakes and pink polkda dot panels. I was a little intimidated by its price per yard, so I limited myself to 1/3, which was more than enough to make a batch of the cutest wallets ever. I was ever so surprised to see candies and chocolate hearts that were hidden by the fold. Anyway, on to the cuteness.

I also got this cool mushroom fabric.

I'll be putting them in the shop tomorrow.

And I got the news that I was accepted into the craft fair. More info when I get receive it!

Secret Treasures of the Internet (according to Ashley) revealed!

I have been putting together a list of secret treasures of the internet to share with you, my friends, my enemies, every one. We will be united in giggles and happiness.

I'd like to start with this, Secret Treasure of the Internet (according to Ashley) number 38:

Chainsaw showed me this one last night, and it made me laugh, which is kind of a requirement if it's going to be on the list of STotI(atA). The key is the look in its face. He found it here on Fork Party, which I've never heard of before last night.

When you're done looking at that, I'd like to move on to Secret Treasure of the Internet (according to Ashley) number 27:

We randomly discovered this handsome ol' fella on a random ad while Chainsaw was surfing the informational waves of the world wide web. I'm really sorry if this is your grandpa and I'm using him as a laugh prompt, but he really makes me giggle. I think he kind of looks like a turtle.

Secret Treasure of the Internet (according to Ashley) number 15 is a video:

Yes, it is a pug in a snuggie playing the keyboard. I think it's better than the cat, although the pug leaves the dramatic look department with something to be desired.

AND, my personal favorite, the back ground on my Apple Lappy, the apple of my eye, the BEST Secret of the Internet (According to Ashley) #1, in fact:

Do you know this dog? Can I please have him? Seriously though, I don't know where this photo came from. Please let me know if you know who I should thank or maybe bow down and worship for the glory of this shot. Is it real? Never mind, I don't care. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

More Secret Treasures to be revealed at a later date.  Back to your regular scheduled programming tomorrow.

Special thanks to Chainsaw for his hard work (emailing me links to some of these upon my request) in discovering these.  My life wouldn't be the same without you!
