Scary Stuff

I had a living nightmare the other morning.  When I have to ride the bus to work, I get there more than an hour early and inevitably end up at one of the nearby thrift stores.  I thought the luck of the mighty bald eagle (I don't know where this stuff comes from) was with me when I spotted an almost full rack of beautiful vintage dresses.



I took an armload to the dressing room, where something horrible happened.  None of them fit me.  Some were too big, some were just a little too small.  I couldn't zip them the last couple inches.  I don't have very good altering skills, so I couldn't talk myself into buying the too big ones.  I knew they'd just sit there and never get altered.



I'm sure at least some of you vintage lovers will understand how that morning took a page from one of my scariest dreams.  A rack full of vintage for cheap, and none of it fits!!  Ahhh!

Oh well.  50% off day is coming soon.  I might be able to talk myself into buying one of the dresses that was too big if it's still there.  In less scary news, I got a message from them on facebook saying I won a $10 gift certificate.  Not sure how I pulled that off, but I'll take it!!

Back to scary.



Felix loooooves Halloween, and so do I!  I decided some spooky decorations were in order this year.  We took a trip to Hobby Lobby and Big Lots, and this is what we came up with so far.  The lights are candy corn colored!



Felix is obsessed with this thing.  The LED eyes change colors and move back and forth.



And let's be honest here, I might be obsessed with taking pictures of it.  They all end up having maximum awesomeness.



In Hot Butter news, I'm still working on a big stack of Half-moon Handbags.  I've also been contacted about doing a wholesale order, so there will probably be new wallets in the future (if I ever finish those bags!).  Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Halloween and Unicorns

My owl costume turned out fabulous, if I may say so myself. I used this tutorial for the dress. For the wings I cut out pieces of felt. I interfaced the bottom piece of felt and added a snap and a loop of elastic to keep it in place. I put the other part of the snap on the shoulders of my dress to anchor the top of the wing to the dress. I think bigger wings would have looked better, but it was a last minute idea and I used what I had.



I've been working on painting some of my vintage bags for the upcoming holiday market I'll be participating in. I'm kind of in looooove with this unicorn. Do you think our babies would have rainbow hair?

Halloween

I decided to go handmade and NOT SEXY this year, just to shake things up. I saw this tutorial Chelsea from Sea Blanket shared on A Beautiful Mess, and decided I wanted to be an owl. I accidentally spent 4 hours working on this part the other day, and I don't have any pictures of it. You'll have to wait for the final unveiling!

Today I made a couple owl masks to go with my costume.



This one is made using a black plastic mask form I bought at Hobby Lobby because Felix begged me to. It was a three pack, and I have at last used one for good! Unfortunately, it's a little hard to see/breathe and my face gets all sweaty in this beast.



That lead to me making this mask out of a pair of thrifted sunglasses. I popped the lenses out and hot glued feathers on it. This one is much more comfortable although I do need to trim some of those pesky nose ticklers!

This is the first of a few years that we're not hosting our own Butter household Halloweenie party. I usually get so stressed out cleaning and cooking that I have a headache by the time the party starts. Not this year! This year we attend a party not of our throwing.



I love Giant Dwarf's Starlette Crowns so much, but I can't exactly afford them. Therefore I copycatted her in a big way for personal use and felt super cute all night at work.

The grub! I was fully expecting drunk people to want to eat those candy coated spider delicacies later in the evening, and I WAS WRONG. Note to self: Not everyone loves the candy like I do!



Thank heavens for Melissa, who ate the ultimate candy corn cupcake!

I was lucky enough to score this mullet at the Humane Society thrift store for $2.50. Her name is Beverly, which becomes the name of anyone wearing her. She looks great on everyone, but Felix wins the prize for Best Beverly look.



Second place goes to Jeffrey, who lovingly wore Beverly all night.



In other news, I've been sewing my pants off to get ready for the craft fair. I'll try to get some pictures taken so I can share!
