Belated Birthday Drawing

If you're not a facebook fan, I may have left ya'll hanging on the giveaway drawing.  I started feeling not so hot Wednesday afternoon, which was quickly followed by feeling BAD, which is way worse than not so good, you know?  I think it's the flu.  Anyway.  I'm starting to feel better today.  I have written down many names on many slips of paper and will now choose the lucky winners!

I have used my sick time to get many things done.  I'm going to make a list.

• I really broke in that heating pad my midwife suggested we get for Felix's birth.  I haven't used it much, but it's officially served its purpose and will no longer go unnoticed under my bathroom sink.
• I watched the whole first season of Californication, and it's awesome and I love it.  Holy boobs!  Seriously, muchos naked ladies are in this show, which means I had to sneak it in while Felix was at school/in bed.
• I took 4 baths in 36 hours, which has to be some kind of personal record.
• I also watched an awesome program called Snakemaster, which was about a guy in search of a giant anaconda.  Sounded a little sexy, but it turned out to actually be about a guy searching for a giant anaconda.  He totally finds one, wrassles it, and then holds/plays with it.  I can't believe that snake didn't just eat that guy.  

Ok, I'm going to get back to work, and by work I mean parking my butt on the couch.  Peace out homes!  I'll write a post about my trip soon (hopefully tomorrow!), but feel free to check out some awesome mossy forrest pictures on flickr!

The Flock (I'm giving one away!)

My little flock of Owl Change Purses turned out ever so lovely, if I do say so myself. Photographing owls on a string is kind of like photographing a herd of children- they don't hold still. And two of them kept trying to make out. I busted them in several photos, unable to keep their flaps off each other. It was kind of romantic.

Holy smokes! Look at all that handmade goodness!






This adorable (out of focus, darn!) hat was made by Kiss My Button. I actually acquired this hat at the Denver Handmade Alliance swap that was right before the holidays. I think I traded a wristlet for this plum beauty with adorable bird button. Unfortunately, I don't really love how it looks on me, but I bet it would look great on you! I have several items from Kiss My Button that I just love!

Three cards handmade by M. Heller Designs. These are also from the craft swap. She wanted one of my purses, so she swapped me a bunch of cards. Thought I'd share some with you!

One vintage lace collar with "pearls" on it. It doesn't have a closing device, which would probably give you a good excuse to go brooch shopping, right? I got this at an antique store.




Last, but not least, we have two pairs of vintage button earrings (one purple and gold, one white with blue flowers) and one houndstooth wallet made by me! I have to be honest and tell you that I accidentally melted a smidge on this wallet with my too hot iron. I think you can see it in the pictures, but it doesn't look too bad, I promise!

Wow! I think that's all around a $90 value. I'd try to enter, but I think I can restrain myself.

Captain's Log: Snow day number three

We are currently wrapping up (I hope) a freak early winter storm (even though it is not winter). Check this out:



It's totally crazy. Don't worry, we have plenty of hot chocolate and alcoholic additives. I am also happy to have my breast friend Laura here to hang out under blankets on the couch. I need to get a picture of her poodle Butter in the snow. He dives in and swims around, which results in the abominable snow poodle look!

Exciting news time!

I got accepted into the Fancy Tiger Holiday Handmade craft fair this year. I have to admit that I'm a little proud of myself for getting in. I'll definitely be showing my blog friends all kinds of new prizes I'm working on for the fair. I'd love it if my Denver friends stop by to say hi in December.

My new bag and a new giveaway

Felix and I saw a link to Canon paper crafts (ok, I saw it and showed it to him!), and we just HAD to make this guy:



Of course, a three year old isn't much help when it comes to cutting/folding/gluing small pieces of paper, so we had to print off the vampire mask to entertain him while I did the hard work. Also, special thanks to Chainsaw for making dinner while I did this. You know you have a good guy when you out of the blue ask him to make dinner so you can make a paper skeleton, and he says yes.

Felix has dubbed him a "zombie skeleton," and we have named him Rupert.

I also decided to get busy with my Enchino yesterday afternoon. Say hello to my new purse, if you please.



I didn't want to use a big piece of it, but I did want a lion for sure! This ended up being a big mix of materials. I used linen, cotton, buttons from my collection, and magic, of course. While making this I realized that I've never really sat down and made something knowing it was for me. Everything that's MINE that I've made is something I randomly decided to keep.

Felix shows here that it also makes a pretty cool beard. Not sure if I'd want a lion in my beard, but I won't be using it as a beard personally.

I was luckily enough to go to the Thrashing Bee in Sturgis, SD last summer. They have a super old steam tractor parade, which Felix liked. They had some flea market type areas, where I scored a couple hand made aprons. I'm assuming they're vintage, but I'm no pro. I can tell for sure that they were hand made and that someone put a ton of work into them.

I love full aprons on account of I'm a messy cooker/baker, so I thought I'd pass this lovely half apron onto one of you!

Long story followed by a giveaway

Happy 100 posts day!

I accidentally on purpose bought the most expensive fabric I've ever bought yesterday. I don't feel one ounce guilty about it because it has to have balance out with all the thrifty sewing I've been doing lately. I'm getting ahead of myself. Step into my time machine. Did you put your seat belt on? Good! We're not going far.

So the Chainsaw is away from home for a few days. He usually works from home, but some guys from his company are in Denver for a few days. They requested that he stay there with them to get more work done.

City driving scares the crap out of me. I'm from South Dakota. I remember when driving in Rapid City scared me, and now it's nothing compared to driving through Denver. I can do it, and I will, but my heart rate goes up to like 503, I have white knuckles, and I'm super terrified that someone is going to rear end me.

I didn't want to be without a car for several days, so Felix and I went with Chainsaw to drop him off in the big city. I decided that if I was already going to be getting my pants scared off, I might as well try to check out the Fancy Tiger. I've always wanted to go.

Of course, it was 9:45 am and they don't open until 11 am. Felix and I checked out a kind of fancy looking Goodwill. I found not one item for my Halloween costume, but scored some snow boots for Felix and new (to me) jeans for myself. Everything else on this street (except the sex shop) appeared to be closed. It was snowing and cold. I was in the city, and damn if I wasn't going to walk through the doors of Fancy Tiger before I admitted city defeat.

I was desperately wishing for a coffee shop or at least somewhere warm, when I looked up and saw a sign that said coffee. The front of the building looked like a bar. I open the door a crack and see a man standing BEHIND A BAR. I'm pretty sure it's a bar, ok? I ask if Felix and I can come in. I have got to get this kid to a bathroom before he states he needs one, and we're cold. Bathroom mission accomplished. Felix of course decides we need to sit AT THE BAR. Not in a comfy booth, but on a stool where we might make small talk about skeletons and glowing lights in the bar for 30 minutes with the bartender. I guess this joint doubles as a coffee shop in the morning or something. Felix did not want to leave the bar to go to the Fancy Tiger at 11, but I talked him into it.

I walk into Fancy Tiger, which is a super small joint. However, the stuff it has room for is awesome. They have fancy threads, sashiko floss, craft books, and the coolest, nicest fabrics. And that's just on the sewing side. The other side was dedicated to yarn and it's best friends knit and crochet.

I think I made 4 or 5 laps around the store just looking at fabric, thinking I probably wouldn't buy any. THEN IT HAPPENED. I saw some Enchino, which I've always thought looked so cool on the internet. It's $18/yard price tag effectively kept me from ever considering owning a piece of the glory for myself. Then I did something I should have never done: I touched it. It felt amazing. I left with half a yard.



It's sitting on the table looking at me, begging me to touch it. I think I may end up playing hard to get. I might iron it in a bit, and then it's going to have to wait around for me to call and see if it wants to get together with my creative energy.

Ok, that was a pretty long story. In summary, I took Felix to hang out a bar and got my grubby hams on some Enchino.

I'm a winner!

I was so excited to win one of the awesome giveaways Linda at LindaMade hosted last week. I was the lucky winner of the "Scrap Bonanza." Nothing could have pleased me more last week. Seriously.

They make me wish I had a coffee table or something to protect from the evils of condensation.

Felix and I were in heaven last night. We separated them into color piles for fun. One pile was the designated dog pile, which was home to Felix's favorite fabric.

Zippered Card Wallets and a GIVEAWAY

I think I mentioned them, but they were created entirely from my scraps. Even the interfacing was scrap pieces. Boy am I glad I saved all those random pieces of interfacing. Although I'm not to happy with the wrinkles it created on the inside. See?



I'm thinking I'll try sewing in flannel for the next batch.



These are perfect for use in a wristlet. I "bought" a wristlet from myself to go out last month, and I've been using it all the time (not just to go out). I keep all my necessities in it, which isn't much. ID, debit card, a little cash, my lip glosses and balms (which are now in an adorable pouch!), a pen, phone, and keys all fit with room to spare. I guess that sounds like a lot of stuff, but it's all small stuff. My regular sized purse is always full of crap, and I like how using the wrislet makes me actually remove receipts and shopping lists before it's packed full of them. However, there's always a pile of change at the bottom, and I don't like having my ID and debit card just floating around all willy nilly.

Important Saturday night announcements

The most exciting order of business is that the random number generator picked lucky number 18, Heather Jane from Living Senses. She, like so many of you, likes the clothesline best, and it will soon be on its way to her house! Congrats Heather!

Good news though, I have two more clothesline pouches appliqued. They shall soon be in the shop!

Even more good news- I decided that there should be two winners. The second winner was chosen less diplomatically. I didn't feel like having to count through all the comments again, so I looked at the ceiling, scrolled up and down for a minute or two, and picked the name the mouse was on for the second lucky winner. Feel free to try this method for yourself, it's kind of exciting.

The thrifted linen strikes again

I've been working hard to make that pair of linen pants into as many cool things as possible. Here are the creations I've finished today:



I love this one. I found a ginormous jumble of this lace at a thrift store. I'm assuming it's old because it looks it. It also looks super pretty.

You guys are blowing me away on the giveaway post. The clothesline seems pretty popular. I'm thinking I should make some more. Maybe one with all undies?!? Sorry, but the undies are my favorite part. My family home didn't have air conditioning until after I moved out (like right after, thanks for all the suffering ma!), so we had to hang all our clothes out to dry. Dryers = hot house. My mom always said to hang the undies in the back so the passersby couldn't see them. Consider upcoming undies pouches my late rebellion!

Some things I'm going to work on:

1. Make a sweet list of all the blogs that promoted my give away and post it here. I haven't had time to check them all out, but I've seen some pretty cool stuff on the ones I have looked at.

2. Shop update. I know I said Sunday, but I might try to put a few things up sooner. I have to wait until after the drawing to list the pouches in the giveaway post. One of them won't be available because it will be living at your house or wherever you decide it needs to live. The winner will have the huge responsibility of deciding if they're going to keep it for themselves (and if so, what you're going to do with it!) or give it to a friend. I am the tangent master!

3. Relax. I think I'm going to do this one first. :D
